This Picture Sucks

and so do yours

#3. What camera did you use?

Honestly, what the fuck does it matter what camera somebody used? Emulating the gear your favorite photographer uses is going to… make you spend money. That’s it. The photography is still going to be yours. The framing, the composition, subject matter, perspective, it all stays the same. That’s what makes your picture, not knowing that some dude shot some some pic with a Nikon D3x and a Zeiss 85mm f/1.4.

I know how tempting it is to ask, ‘what did you shoot that with’. Don’t. Learn to recognize what focal length was used, more-or-less, and rollll. That’s all you need to know. Really, there are 5 lens lengths – ultra-wide, wide, normal, long, damn long. They all look different, different enough that pretty much anybody can spot the difference. That includes you, and that’s all you need to know.

Oh, and never be that dude who goes, “if I had that gear, I’d shoot stuff like that too.” You wouldn’t, douchebag.

Examples! I have no idea how to spot different lens lengths…

Go do some reading and learn how lenses work and then you will know how to spot the difference.
